Irbid, May 7 (Petra) -- Yarmouk University has secured a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a pharmaceutical manufacturing technology aimed at improving production efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

The patent, titled "System and Method for Dry Coating of Substrate Materials," marks a new milestone for the university’s applied research and industrial innovation efforts, according to a statement issued Thursday.

The development was achieved through a research partnership linking academia and industry, involving Dr. Dirar Al-Omari from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Yarmouk University, Dr. Sami Qasem from Tabuk Pharmaceuticals and industrial expert Hussein Talafha of Talafha Industrial Establishment.

The patented technology introduces a modification to pneumatic flow compression equipment used in coating solid pharmaceutical products, allowing the process to operate without the use of liquid solvents, whether organic or water-based.

Researchers said the innovation represents an important technological shift in pharmaceutical manufacturing by improving production efficiency, reducing manufacturing time and cutting operational costs by more than half.

The technology also aligns with sustainability and green economy goals by eliminating the need for costly organic solvents that carry environmental risks.

Dr. Al-Omari said the achievement demonstrates the ability of scientific research in Jordanian universities to move beyond academic theory into practical industrial application.

He added that the patent contributes to the development of more efficient and sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing methods in line with global industry trends focused on lowering costs and improving production quality.

According to the university, the achievement reflects its broader strategy of promoting applied scientific research and directing innovation toward commercially viable industrial applications.

The university added that its Deanship of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, through the Technology Transfer Department, is working to commercialize the patent in partnership with industrial and investment sectors.

Officials said the effort aims to transform research outcomes into economic value while strengthening Jordan’s position in regional and international innovation ecosystems.
