AMMAN, Aug. 8 (Petra) -- In modern economies, startups have evolved beyond mere technology ventures into primary drivers reshaping traditional sectors, elevating market efficiency, and pioneering solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises, according to Yaseer co-founder Amer Naser Al-Din.

In an interview with the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Al-Din highlighted that digital platforms have emerged as critical tools for modernizing supply chains, optimizing productivity, and fostering transparency, thereby strengthening overall economic competitiveness and sustainable growth.

Detailing the evolution of Jordan’s entrepreneurial ecosystem over the past decade, Al-Din noted that expanded incubation programs, venture capital funds, and sophisticated financing tools have successfully transformed innovative concepts into scalable enterprises capable of attracting investment, generating employment, and expanding regionally.

Spotlighting Yaseer as a case study, Al-Din explained that the platform was designed to modernize wholesale trade by digitally connecting suppliers with grocery stores and micro-retailers. The objective, he noted, was never just about building a digital link, but rather democratizing access to advanced procurement tools, competitive pricing, faster logistics, and working capital financing solutions previously restricted to large-scale merchants.

Addressing Jordan's entrepreneurial landscape, Al-Din praised the maturation of the ecosystem, pointing to the pivotal role played by the Innovative Startups and SMEs Fund (ISSF) in catalyzing venture investments, broadening investor bases, and backing venture capital funds.

He cited Yaseer’s investment milestone--led by Oasis500 with institutional participation and ISSF backing--as a turning point that reinforced corporate governance, built an active board of directors, and leveraged investor networks to accelerate institutional readiness.

Reflecting on regional expansion, Al-Din emphasized that while Jordan boasts exceptional human capital and technical expertise, its limited domestic market size makes regional scaling a strategic imperative from inception. He noted that scaling abroad serves as a natural extension that boosts domestic investments, increases service exports, and creates high-value jobs at home.

On the hurdles faced by startups, Al-Din observed that developing technology was secondary to shifting traditional market behaviors. Cultivating merchant trust in digital solutions required sustained effort and concrete proof of value regarding time savings, pricing efficiency, and streamlined purchasing.

Concluding his remarks, Al-Din called for continued regulatory refinement to support entrepreneurship, streamline investment procedures, update venture capital legislation, and expand startup participation in public procurement to maximize their contribution to the national economy.
