Amman, August 11 (Petra) - Literacy among Jordanians aged 15 to 24 reached 99.3 percent, with 34.8 percent holding a high school diploma, according to data released on Tuesday by the Department of Statistics (DoS).
Population estimates indicate that youth comprise roughly one-fifth of Jordan's population, numbering 2.3 million out of an estimated 11.9 million residents by the end of 2025. Regional demographics mirror national population distribution, with Amman hosting 41.6 percent of youth, followed by Irbid at 19.1 percent and Zarqa at 14.2 percent. The youth gender ratio stands at 116 males per 100 females.
The DoS’s 2024 information technology survey revealed near-universal internet adoption across youth demographics. For teenagers aged 15 to 19, internet usage reached 99.7 percent among males and 99.4 percent among females, while computer usage stood at 67.3 percent for males and 73.3 percent for females.
Among young adults aged 20 to 24, internet usage recorded 99.5 percent for males and 99.6 percent for females, with computer usage at 47.1 percent for males and 54.0 percent for females.
Labor force data for 2025 indicates a revised economic participation rate of 21.0 percent for youth, comprising 30.9 percent for males and 9.2 percent for females. Marital status metrics show that 95.7 percent of youth are single, while 4.1 percent are married.
Job creation survey results highlight strong workforce entry among young people. Youth secured 39.9 percent of newly created jobs and accounted for 63.9 percent of total net jobs generated, while 15.7 percent left employment during the same period.
The DoS stated that investing in human capital remains a "pivotal strategic priority" for Jordan, positioning youth participation, innovation, and entrepreneurship as primary drivers of sustainable national development.
