Amman, Oct. 5 (Petra) –– An estimated 82 percent of all buildings in the Gaza Strip have been damaged amid the ongoing Israeli assault on the enclave, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said.
The Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA), citing a PCBS statement issued Monday, reported that about 201,290 buildings were damaged between Oct. 7, 2023, and June 2026. Of these, 134,422 were completely destroyed and 13,848 sustained severe damage, while approximately 328,627 housing units were affected.
Large-scale military operations and the destruction of homes and infrastructure since Oct. 7, 2023, have led to repeated mass displacement across Gaza. Most of the enclave’s estimated 2.1 million residents remain displaced amid continuing military operations and extensive damage to housing and essential services.
According to the statement, residents are now confined to less than 40 percent of the Gaza Strip due to restrictions on access to large areas, increasing overcrowding and pressure on areas available to displaced people.
Data covering the first half of 2026 showed that about 90 percent of Gaza’s water and sanitation infrastructure had been damaged or destroyed, severely limiting access to safe and reliable water and sanitation services.
PCBS said 82 percent of households continue to face water insecurity, while as many as 70 percent of households have access to only six liters of water per person per day. The figure is well below the World Health Organization’s minimum requirement of about 15 liters per person per day.
