Above-Average Heat to Persist Through Tuesday Before Temperatures Ease

Amman, Aug. 10 (Petra) -- Hot weather is expected to persist across most regions through Tuesday, with temperatures remaining 3 to 4 degrees Celsius above seasonal averages before beginning to ease on Wednesday, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department.

Temperatures will rise slightly on Monday, bringing hot conditions across most parts of the country and very hot weather to the Badia, the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba. Moderate winds shifting between northeasterly and northwesterly directions are forecast to become active at times during the evening.

The Meteorological Department warned against prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak daytime hours and cautioned against leaving children and older adults inside closed vehicles. It also urged the public not to light fires or leave burning materials in forested areas.

The heat is expected to continue on Tuesday, with hot weather prevailing across most regions and very hot conditions persisting in the Badia, the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba. Moderate northeasterly to northwesterly winds are forecast to strengthen at times during the evening, raising dust particularly in desert areas.

Temperatures are forecast to decline slightly on Wednesday, bringing relatively hot conditions across most regions. Hot to very hot weather will continue in the Badia and the low-lying areas, including the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba. Moderate northwesterly winds are expected to strengthen during the afternoon and raise dust, particularly in the Badia.

Little change is expected on Thursday, with relatively hot weather continuing across most parts of the country and hot to very hot conditions persisting in the desert and low-elevation regions. Moderate northwesterly winds are forecast to become active at times.

Monday's temperatures are expected to reach 37 degrees Celsius in East Amman and 35 C in West Amman. Highs are forecast at 32 C in the northern highlands, 33 C in the Sharah highlands and 37 C across the plains.
