Energy Minister Opens Arab Electricity Council Session, Hands Presidency to Saudi Arabia

Amman, Oct. 13 (Petra) -- Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh opened the 16th session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity in Riyadh, handing over the council’s presidency to Saudi Arabia.

According to a ministry statement issued Tuesday, the meeting brought together Arab ministers of electricity and energy, members of national delegations, representatives of the League of Arab States General Secretariat, and officials from relevant Arab organizations and unions.

The council reviewed several key issues, including progress toward signing and ratifying the two agreements related to the Pan-Arab Electricity Market. Discussions also covered a pilot project for electricity exchange between Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

Other agenda items included renewable energy, energy efficiency, Arab cooperation in clean hydrogen, and a program to exchange expertise in district cooling economics and technologies. Participants also discussed the development of Arab initiatives related to energy and improving the efficiency of energy production and use.

The session forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Arab cooperation in the electricity and energy sectors, advance joint Arab initiatives, enhance energy security, improve electricity grid interconnection, and promote the exchange of expertise and experience among Arab countries.
