Environment minister leads major cleanup campaign in Zarqa

Amman, April 28 (Petra) -- The Zarqa Environment Directorate launched a wide-scale cleanup campaign in the Hashemite district on Tuesday, led by Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman as part of a national strategy to combat illegal littering.

The initiative was organized in cooperation with the local district administration, the Hashemite Municipality, and the Zaha Cultural Center.

The campaign began at the Martyr Muath al-Kasasbeh Park and extended through the perimeter of the Zaha Cultural Center and along the historic Tapline area. The event saw broad participation from official government bodies, civil society organizations, and residents.

Minister Suleiman stated that the campaign is a key component of national executive plans aimed at improving public cleanliness and curbing environmental violations. He emphasized the necessity of sustaining these environmental efforts and fostering a culture of social responsibility among citizens.

Participants in the drive included students from the Second Zarqa Education Directorate, volunteers from the Al-Shoula Sports Club, the Sokhna Camp Committee, and personnel from the Public Security Directorate’s Hashemite Police Station.

Officers from the Zarqa branch of the Royal Department for Environmental Protection also took part, alongside the Environmental Protection Society and various government representatives.

Officials noted that the drive is part of a series of environmental initiatives designed to improve the ecological landscape of the Zarqa Governorate and promote positive public behavior toward waste management and community hygiene.
