Environment Ministry, Run Jordan Partner to Promote Environmental Awareness

Amman, June 9 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Environment and the Run Jordan signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to strengthen cooperation in implementing initiatives that support the National Cleanliness and Anti-Indiscriminate Waste Dumping Strategy and reduce littering through environmental awareness campaigns integrated into sporting events and races.

According to a ministry statement, the memorandum was signed by Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman and Run Jordan Director General Lina Kurd.

Under the memorandum, the two sides will cooperate in integrating environmental awareness messages into sporting events and races, utilizing their media and communication platforms to reach wider audiences, and implementing joint initiatives that support the goals of the National Cleanliness Strategy.

The agreement also seeks to reduce indiscriminate waste disposal and strengthen community participation in environmental protection efforts.

The agreement reflects both parties' commitment to strengthening institutional partnerships and coordinating efforts to advance the objectives of the National Cleanliness Strategy while promoting community engagement in environmental issues.

Suleiman stressed the importance of expanding cooperation with civil society organizations and utilizing influential community platforms to deliver environmental messages and encourage positive behavioral change. He noted that sporting events provide an effective means of reaching diverse segments of society and motivating individuals to adopt environmentally responsible practices.

The minister said the ministry is continuing to implement awareness programs and initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of cleanliness and reducing littering in public spaces.

For her part, Kurd said sports have evolved into an effective tool for raising community awareness alongside their athletic role. She added that the races and events organized by the association offer a valuable platform for promoting national, humanitarian, and environmental messages and reaching broad segments of society.

Kurd affirmed the association's commitment to supporting national efforts to enhance environmental awareness and encourage behaviors that contribute to preserving public cleanliness and protecting public facilities.
