Irbid figures say King's speech sets out Jordan's priorities

Irbid, Nov. 2 (Petra) -- Official, academic, and industrial figures in the Irbid governorate say His Majesty King Abdullah II’s speech opening parliament’s third ordinary session outlined clear state priorities, balancing national security requirements with citizen-centered economic growth.

Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), local leaders emphasized that the throne speech underscored the strength of Jordan’s internal front against extremist ideologies while maintaining firm support for the Palestinian cause and regional stability.

Habes Al-Zaboun, President of Jadara University, and Atef Al-Shiyab, professor of archaeology and anthropology, noted that the royal address sent a decisive message regarding Jordan’s capability to combat terrorism and defend its national sovereignty.

Addressing governance and institution building, Zuhair Al-Tahat, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication at Yarmouk University, and former MP Fatima Abu Abtah stated that the speech set a clear standard for administrative accountability. They emphasized the monarch's assertion that the rule of law applies equally without exception, serving as the foundation for social justice and civic trust.

Abdullah Bani Hani, Director General of the Mahafazati Volunteer Foundation, and Ali Al-Hawamdeh, Governor of Bani Obaid District, highlighted public awareness as a key defense against extremist narratives, noting that societal unity reinforces military and security efforts. Retired Brig. Gen. Pilot Adel Shunaq, Director General of the Hashemite Commission for Disabled Soldiers (HCDS), added that the address provided strategic momentum for ongoing national modernization.

On the economic front, Hani Abu Hassan, Chairman of the Irbid Chamber of Industry, Imad Al-Azzam, head of the Irbid Municipal Committee, and Nidal Al-Hasi, Secretary of the Al-Hassan Industrial Estate Investors Society, praised the royal instructions directing the government to accelerate major strategic projects, particularly regarding water security and economic reform. They noted that true development must yield tangible improvements in living standards, healthcare, education, and investment opportunities.
