Jerash leaders say King’s UN speech reflects Jordan’s core principles and vision

Jerash, Sept. 22 (Petra) -- Official, academic, and civic figures in the Jerash Governorate reiterated on Tuesday their steadfast support for His Majesty King Abdullah II’s address at the opening session of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). They stated that the king's remarks articulated Jordan’s national principles and advanced a clear vision for regional security, peace, and multilateral accountability.

Local leaders told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the king's presence at the international forum elevated core regional challenges chief among them the Palestinian issue to the forefront of global discourse. They urged the international community to transition from mere crisis containment to delivering just, sustainable political solutions rooted in international law and legitimate UN resolutions.

Acting Governor of Jerash Mohammad Al-Awamreh noted that under King Abdullah’s leadership, Jordan remains committed to diplomatic engagement without compromising its sovereignty, national identity, or border security. He stressed that resolving regional crises requires addressing their root causes through dialogue, political settlements, and respect for international law.

Former Minister Atef Odeibat stated that sustainable regional security cannot be built on temporary crisis management. He emphasized that achieving lasting stability requires genuine international political will, human rights protections, and active support for comprehensive peace tracks rather than allowing conflicts to escalate.

Member of Parliament Mohammad Hdaib highlighted that the Palestinian cause remains central to Jordan's foreign policy agenda. He pointed out that the royal address reaffirmed the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, rejected forced displacement, and underscored the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Jerash Governorate Council Committee Chairman Ziad Al-Rabei and Municipal Committee Chairman Mohammad Bani Yasin both emphasized that Jordan continues to shoulder significant economic and political burdens due to regional instability. They called on the international community to support countries hosting refugees and bearing the brunt of neighboring conflicts.

Academic and civil society representatives also voiced their support. Jadara University President Habes Al-Zaboun underscored the role of higher education in promoting dialogue and moderation to counter extremism. General Federation of Jordanian Women (GFJW) President Jalila Al-Smadi emphasized the direct impact of prolonged conflicts on women, children, and families, advocating for greater female participation in peacebuilding and decision-making.

Jordan Environmental Society (JES) Administrative Board Member Ferial Al-Nizami added that the king’s explicit focus on Gaza and the West Bank sent a decisive message that decades of managing the conflict rather than resolving it have only served to complicate ground realities and enable illegal actions.
