Jordan, Iraq discuss industrial cooperation, joint economic city project

Amman, July 2 (Petra) -- Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yarub Qudah and Iraqi Minister of Industry and Minerals Mohammad Nouri met in Baghdad on Thursday to discuss ways to enhance industrial and commercial cooperation and expand joint coordination to serve mutual interests.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed several issues of common interest, foremost among which was the joint Jordanian-Iraqi Economic City project. They emphasized the importance of removing obstacles and providing the necessary facilities to proceed with the project, given its strategic significance in supporting the industrial sector and creating promising investment opportunities.

The ministers also discussed mechanisms to increase the volume of bilateral trade and open new channels for economic cooperation to stimulate trade and support the private sector, aiming to achieve economic integration between Amman and Baghdad.

Qudah highlighted the depth of the historic relations between the two countries, stressing the Kingdom’s keenness to develop economic and investment cooperation to achieve shared benefits and enhance economic integration across various fields.

He added that Jordan views Iraq as a major economic partner in the region and attaches special importance to strengthening cooperation between the public and private sectors, expanding partnership areas, and exchanging expertise to stimulate trade and support the industrial sectors of both nations.

For his part, the Iraqi minister affirmed his country's commitment to deepening the partnership with Jordan in various economic and industrial fields. He noted that the Iraqi government places great importance on establishing the joint economic city, advancing vital projects between the two sides, and resolving any obstacles they face.
