Jordan's World Cup debut leaves 'lasting' impression-Report

Amman, July 7 (Petra) - Jordan emerged as one of the standout stories of the 2026 FIFA World Cup through competitive performances, acclaimed officiating, and strong fan support.

The national team earned praise for its displays against Austria, Algeria, and Argentina, with several players producing standout performances that drew global attention and showcased the Kingdom's growing presence on the world stage.

Jordanian referees Adham Makhadmeh, Ahmad Ruwaileh and Mohammad Bakkar have also been among the tournament's top-performing officiating crews. The trio oversaw four matches, earning strong evaluations for their performances.

Jordanian fans in the US also received recognition for their sportsmanship, showcasing their enthusiastic yet orderly support. Cultural events organized around the tournament showcased Jordan's heritage, traditions, and tourist attractions, introducing the country to a broader international audience.

Sports analyst Yahya Qtaishat, in remarks to "Petra," said Jordan's World Cup premiere established the country on the global football map, while the success of its referees boosted Jordan's reputation in international football.

Meanwhile, former Jordanian football player Qusai Abu Alieh said the tournament's impact extends "beyond the pitch, raising the profile of Jordanian football, increasing the visibility of its players, and promoting the Kingdom as a tourism and cultural destination." International media pointed to Jordan's players and their performances throughout the tournament, a boost that could improve their prospects for moves to clubs abroad.
