King meets with Jordan Press Association council members

Amman, February 24 (Petra)-His Majesty King Abdullah II, during a meeting with Jordan Press Association (JPA) council members at Al Husseiniya Palace on Tuesday, discussed a range of local and regional issues.

His Majesty emphasised the importance of JPA’s role in promoting media professionalism, especially in light of the rapid developments in the region and the world, noting that the national interest must guide political and media discourse.

The King spoke about the importance of moving forward with megaprojects, attracting more investments, and enhancing services in order to improve citizens’ lives and strengthen the economy.

His Majesty said Jordan is working to leverage its relations with other countries, including countries in East Asia, to attract investment and economic opportunities, and open new markets for Jordanian products.

Speaking about developments related to Iran, the King stressed that dialogue and political solutions are essential to avoid further escalation in the region.

His Majesty reiterated that Jordan will not be a battleground for any conflict, noting that the security of the Kingdom and the safety of its citizens are paramount.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, the King affirmed commitment to continuing to work with active and international partners to protect the rights of Palestinians and halt Israeli measures aimed at changing the status quo in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

His Majesty also emphasised the need to support Syria’s efforts to maintain its security, stability, and territorial sovereignty.

For their part, the attendees praised the King’s efforts in defending Arab causes, especially the Palestinian cause, affirming the importance of Jordan’s role in regional issues, and its commitment to preserving national interests.

The attendees also gave a briefing on JPA procedures and efforts to develop journalism, review and advise on professional affairs, and uphold professional standards.

They stressed the importance of developing Jordanian media tools to keep pace with technological advances, highlighting the role of responsible media in disseminating accurate and factual information, refuting rumours, and promoting the Jordanian narrative.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh attended the meeting.
