Russeifa town hall brings together civic, security leaders to counter extremism, foster social cohesion

Russeifa, Oct. 29 (Petra) -- District Governor of Russeifa hosted an expanded town hall meeting on Thursday with local dignitaries, heads of government departments, security representatives, and leaders of youth and women's organizations to discuss countering violent extremism, rejecting hate speech, and strengthening social cohesion in the wake of the Karak church terrorist attack.

The meeting, held at the municipal headquarters, was attended by Russeifa Municipal Committee Chairman Mohammad Al-Zaboun and Lt. Col. Attallah Al-Mshaqbeh, Director of the Al Madinah (City) Police Station, representing the Public Security Directorate (PSD).

Participants began the meeting by paying tribute to the victims of the attack on Saint George Church in the village of Hmoud, Karak Governorate. Officials emphasized that Russeifa’s diverse demographic reflects the strength of Jordan’s national fabric and its resilience against divisive threats.

District officials commended citizens for rejecting extremist ideology and maintaining community solidarity, noting that public awareness and national unity remain key defenses against terrorism under Hashemite leadership.

Al-Zaboun reaffirmed that Jordanians stand united behind Hashemite rule, stressing that public institutions and civil society must work together to promote tolerance and combat hate speech across all platforms.

For his part, Lt. Col. Al-Mshaqbeh highlighted the strategic partnership between the public and security institutions in confronting radicalization, reiterating the security forces' commitment to upholding the rule of law and apprehending those involved in terrorist activities.

Attendees emphasized the vital role of families, schools, universities, and places of worship in cultivating tolerance, protecting youth from violent extremism, and safeguarding domestic stability. They also praised the military and security services for their continued efforts in defending the Kingdom's borders and ensuring public safety.
