Amman, Aug. 17 (Petra) -- Senate President Faisal Fayez on Monday discussed Jordanian-Qatari relations and regional developments with Qatari Ambassador to Jordan Sheikh Saud bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani, attended by Senator Khawla Al-Armouti, head of the Jordanian-Qatari Parliamentary Brotherhood Committee.

Fayez said the relations between Jordan and Qatar are based on mutual respect, noting that His Majesty King Abdullah II and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani are keen to develop and strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields in a manner that serves the shared interests of the two countries and Arab causes.

The meeting addressed a number of current issues in the region. Fayez said the Arab world is facing several challenges and crises, stressing the need to strengthen Arab unity in dealing with the difficulties facing the region.

He also reaffirmed Jordan’s rejection of interference in the affairs of the Arab Gulf states. Fayez said King Abdullah considers the security and stability of the Gulf states an integral part of Jordan’s security and stability, reflecting Jordan’s Arab and nationalist positions.

He added that Iranian attacks against Jordan and the Arab Gulf states constitute a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.

For his part, the Qatari ambassador expressed appreciation for the level reached by Jordanian-Qatari relations, describing them as established and strong. He affirmed Qatar’s keenness to further develop bilateral ties across various fields.
