Amman, Jan. 26 (Petra) -- Embassy of India in Amman celebrated on Monday the 77th Republic Day of India at the Chancery premises.

According to a statement by the embassy, Ambassador Manish Chauhan unfurled the tricolor flag, which was followed by rendition of National Anthem and reading of excerpts from the President of India’s address to the Nation.

A large gathering of members of the Indian diaspora, friends of India in Jordan and media representatives attended the event.

Conveying Republic Day greetings to the diaspora members and friends of India, Chauhan spoke about the journey of India’s progress and its significant role on the global stage, while also highlighting the "warm and cordial" India-Jordan relations.

Chauhan referred to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jordan last month at the invitation of His Majesty King Abdullah II, noting that this visit has deepened the friendly ties between the two countries and provided fresh impetus for further collaboration for mutual growth and prosperity. During the visit, Modi reiterated India’s commitment to regional peace, prosperity, security and stability.

Chauhan praised the Indian community in Jordan for their efforts in strengthening the India-Jordan people-to-people connect and their active participation in various campaigns of the Mission. He also made particular mention of the friends of India in Jordan and their role in promoting mutual understanding and cooperation.

The ceremony included cultural performances by diaspora members and rendition of the patriotic song ‘Vande Mataram’.
