BAU Students Claim Five Top Spots at Arab AI Olympiad

Salt, Sept. 15 (Petra) -- Al-Balqa Applied University (BAU) students claimed five top placements at the Arab Artificial Intelligence Olympiad, including two runner-up finishes, in competitions spanning machine learning, computer vision and embedded systems.

Students from the university’s Faculty of Artificial Intelligence earned second and third places in embedded systems, third place in computer vision, and second and third places in machine learning.

BAU President Ahmad Fakhri Al-Ajlouni said the results reflect students’ ability to apply academic knowledge and technical skills in competitive settings requiring innovation and problem-solving.

He said the university is working to bridge academic learning and practical application while providing students with an environment that encourages innovation and enables them to keep pace with rapid developments in artificial intelligence and technology.

Faculty of Artificial Intelligence Dean Omar Al-Zoubi said the students demonstrated technical proficiency as well as creativity, logical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork throughout the competition.

Mohammad Laban, Saeed Al-Homsi, Hamza Al-Wahidi and Moataz Abu Amara took second place in the embedded systems track, while Mohammad Amer Laban, Hamza Al-Wahidi and Moataz Abu Amara finished third.

In computer vision, Mohammad Amer Laban, Saeed Al-Homsi, Hamza Al-Wahidi and Moataz Abu Amara secured third place.

Abdullah Jabr and Ibrahim Melhem took second place in machine learning, while Shahd Fathi Al-Fawaeer finished third in the same track.

Al-Zoubi said the faculty would continue supporting students competing in scientific and technology events and strengthening practical learning opportunities that allow them to turn technical knowledge into applications and tangible achievements.

Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Wafaa Al-Maaytah accompanied the students during the Olympiad, providing support and guidance throughout the competition.
