Jordan participates in 2nd Conference of OIC Transport Ministers in Istanbul

Amman, Feb. 12 (Petra) – Minister of Transport Dr. Nidal Qatamin on Thursday took part in the second session of the Conference of Transport Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, Türkiye.

A number of transport ministers, senior officials, and representatives of relevant bodies from member states attended the event.

Talking at the conference, Qatamin called for strengthening regional connectivity among member states and developing economic corridors and supply chains to enhance economic integration and support trade and the movement of goods and passengers.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Transport, the minister noted Jordan's "strategic" location as a link between Asia, Africa, and Europe makes it an "effective partner in any regional connectivity system." Qatamin also noted the Kingdom's commitment to developing the national transport system and enhancing "efficiency" of its infrastructure to become a regional logistics hub that supports economic and commercial activities.

Qatamin underlined Jordan's "readiness" to contribute to initiatives that support integration of transport networks and enhance regional connectivity projects.

He said the current phase requires intensified joint coordination and action among member states to streamline movement of trade and passengers and achieve tangible results.

Additionally, he noted the importance of transforming the conference's initiatives into practical and implementable projects that contribute to strengthening economic integration and logistical connectivity among member states.

On the sidelines of the conference, Qatamin held bilateral meetings, including one with the President of Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), an affiliate of the OIC, Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, focusing on cooperation areas in transport, training, and studies related to member states.

Qatamin also met Mustafa Ozdoner from the Turkish TCDD Technique to discuss studies and consultations for manufacturing railway infrastructure and machines of all kinds, including diesel, electric, metro, light rail and monorail, aimed to enhance land and rail transport capabilities and the transport of goods and passengers.

In a meeting with the Undersecretary of the Palestinian Ministry of Transport and Communications, Muhammad Jalal Hamdan, Qatamin discussed the difficulties facing the movement of people and goods at the Jordanian-Palestinian border crossings and work on finding solutions to alleviate the burdens on State of Palestine.
