Latin Patriarchal Vicar Visits UNESCO-Listed Umm Al-Jimal Archaeological Site

Mafraq, July 10 (Petra)-- Latin Patriarchal Vicar General and member of the Baptism Site Board of Trustees, Bishop Iyad Twal, visited the archaeological city of Umm Al-Jimal on Friday, where he was received by Mohammad Khalil Abu Aleem, head of the Umm Al-Jimal Municipal Committee.

During the visit, Abu Aleem briefed Bishop Twal on the history of Umm Al-Jimal, highlighting the successive civilizations that have flourished in the area and its unique collection of ancient churches.

He affirmed the municipality's readiness to cooperate, within its available resources, with the Board of Trustees of the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies in implementing scientific and cultural programs, noting that Umm Al-Jimal is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Abu Aleem also stressed that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, has become a model of religious coexistence, emphasizing the strong bonds of friendship and mutual respect between Muslims and Christians across the Kingdom.

Bishop Twal concluded his visit with a tour of Umm Al-Jimal's archaeological site, where he explored its diverse historical landmarks.
