IRBID, Oct. 20 (Petra) – Yarmouk University President Dr. Malek Al-Sharairi inaugurated three state-of-the-art smart classrooms and a cutting-edge computer lab at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, establishing a high-tech center for early grade teacher training.
Equipped with 81 high-performance workstations and specialized digital tools, the facilities were funded under the U.S. government-supported the Early Grade Education Activity (ASAS) and implemented in partnership with the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX).
Dr. Al-Sharairi highlighted that transforming primary education begins with empowering teachers, stressing that modernizing instructional environments is essential for equipping educators with digital and pedagogical tools during foundational learning stages.
Faculty Dean Dr. Hani Obeidat noted that the new infrastructure upgrades the college's training capacity, creating a hands-on environment for integrating educational technology into teacher preparation curricula.
Faculty Project Director Dr. Khaldoun Abu Al-Haija explained that the Asas project focuses on elevating early grade instruction by enhancing interactive teaching practices, boosting foundational literacy and math instruction, driving digital transformation, and training future educators on practical AI applications in the classroom.
IREX representatives–including Dr. Saeb Al-Khasawneh, Rasha Al-Akhras, and Dr. Safwan Shatnawi–stated that the five-year initiative (2023–2028) aims to systematically elevate early education standards across Jordan by bridging theory with classroom application through university partnerships.
