189 market violations in April 1- 18; no monopoly complaints detected: Trade Ministry

Amman, April 19 (Petra) – Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply said it has not observed nor received any reports or complaints from citizens on monopolistic practices or refusal to sell in the markets during the past period.
The ministry noted local markets are experiencing "stability" in the availability of various goods in sufficient quantities, despite global conditions and disruptions to supply chains.
In a statement issued Sunday, the ministry said it continues to intensify its market monitoring tours.
During April 1- 18, the ministry issued 189 violations against commercial establishments that failed to comply with the provisions of the Industry and Trade Law and related legislation.
Out of this figure, a total of 151 key violations were related to failure to display prices.
The statement added that list also included 12 violations for selling at prices that breach the advertised cost and 15 cases for selling at prices higher than the set price.
The ministry indicated that the Market Monitoring Directorate dealt with 138 complaints from citizens through various channels, adding that the necessary measures were taken to address these cases, reflecting "speed of response and oversight effectiveness".
The ministry's inspection teams conducted 277 inspection tours, including 4,613 visits to businesses across the Kingdom's governorates, to ensure their compliance with applicable regulations and instructions.
The ministry noted the Market Control Directorate continues to implement provisions of the Industry and Trade Law No. 18 of 1998, which aim to monitor availability and prices of basic food commodities and verify price displays and adherence.
Its teams' efforts also seek to monitor wholesalers' inventory, curb practices related to concealing or refusing to sell goods, and monitor sales, clearances, and promotional offers.
Additionally, the ministry affirmed continuation of its inspection campaigns to ensure market stability and consumer protection.
