Amman, March 31 (Petra) -- Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan and German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reem Alabali-Radovan signed on Tuesday an agreement for an additional grant of EUR 22 million to support the National Water Conveyance Project, bringing Germany’s total grant support for the strategic project to EUR 127 million.

According to a ministry statement, Toukan expressed appreciation for the longstanding partnership between the two countries and for Germany’s continued support of Jordan’s development priorities, particularly in the sectors of water and technical and vocational training, as well as public sector modernization.

Toukan also reiterated appreciation for the additional support to the National Water Conveyance, which underscores Germany’s steadfast commitment to Jordan’s water security and adapting to the impacts of climate change.

Moreover, Toukan thanked the German Minister for the newly announced support of EUR50 million to sustain essential services for Syrian refugees in Jordan, especially in the education sector.

For her part, Minister Alabali-Radovan commented, "The war in Iran must be brought to an end as quickly as possible. Jordan is also feeling its impact economically, politically, and humanitarily. I have travelled to Jordan today to underline our solidarity and to offer concrete support for the provision of supplies to Syrian refugees and for the construction of the seawater desalination plant. This is not only a humanitarian imperative: stability, security and prospects for the people in Jordan and the Middle East are also in Germany’s immediate interest." During the meeting, both sides discussed ongoing preparations for the upcoming Jordan-Germany Intergovernmental Talks on Development and Economic Cooperation for the years 2026-2027, reaffirming their commitment to further strengthen the strategic partnership and continuing close coordination to advance shared priorities.
