Amman, Nov. 4 (Petra) -- Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Jordan Shahin Abdullayev expressed his country's appreciation Wednesday for Jordan's support for the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
In a press statement, Abdullayev described the peace process as an opportunity to open a new chapter based on security, cooperation and development. He cited the joint declaration signed in Washington on Aug. 8, 2025, and continued contacts between the two countries' leaders.
He said His Majesty King Abdullah II congratulated Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in August 2025 on progress in the peace process, and expressed hope that the understandings would bring lasting peace and strengthen regional security, stability and cooperation.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Minister Ayman Safadi reaffirmed Jordan's support for the peace agreement during his July 2026 visit to Baku, where he met Aliyev and Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, the ambassador said. Safadi described the agreement as an important step toward consolidating regional stability.
On bilateral ties, Abdullayev affirmed the strength of relations and the two countries’ shared commitment to expanding political, economic, investment and cultural cooperation to advance their interests and strengthen regional security and stability.
He traced relations to Jordan’s recognition of Azerbaijan's independence on Dec. 28, 1991, noting that reciprocal official visits and coordination in international forums have strengthened trust and cooperation.
Abdullayev said Azerbaijan's message at this stage is the need to make the international system more effective and ensure its decisions are implemented fairly and consistently, upholding respect for states’ sovereignty and territorial integrity and reinforcing peace and stability in accordance with international law.
