Amman, March 8 (Petra) -- Guo Wei, China’s ambassador to Jordan, said on Sunday that his country calls for respect for the sovereignty of Jordan and other countries in the region, stressing that sovereignty represents a cornerstone of the international order.

Speaking at a press conference on China’s position on developments in the region, Guo said Beijing opposes any attempts to undermine Jordan’s sovereignty, security, or safety, noting that China attaches great importance to regional stability and to strengthening security across the region.

He revealed that China intends to send a Chinese envoy to the Middle East to help find solutions to the current crisis and work to calm tensions and prevent the expansion of the conflict while supporting efforts aimed at easing the escalation in the region.

Guo said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had earlier on Sunday presented Beijing’s position calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East, stressing that war is not a means to resolve crises and that political dialogue remains the best way to achieve stability in the region.

He said China’s position on the current situation in the Middle East is consistent and based on objective and just principles, foremost among them ending the war and preventing the widening of the conflict. He added that the history of the Middle East has repeatedly shown that resorting to force does not solve problems but rather worsens crises and generates more hatred, calling for an immediate halt to military operations and the avoidance of any steps that could escalate tensions or expand the war.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, the ambassador reaffirmed China’s position as expressed by the foreign minister, stressing that living under the weight of turmoil and wars is not the inevitable fate of the Palestinian people and underscoring the need to reach a just and lasting solution to the issue.

He said the only reasonable and internationally recognized solution to the Palestinian issue is the "two-state solution," stressing that any new arrangements or mechanisms must support this solution rather than undermine it.

Guo called on the international community not to allow the Palestinian issue to be marginalized again, urging the United Nations to assume its responsibilities and play a leading role in advancing the political process.

He added that the Palestinian people, like other peoples of the world, have the legitimate right to live in peace and achieve development away from the horrors of war, noting that China will continue, as a responsible major country, to support the just Palestinian cause and back international efforts aimed at restoring the Palestinian people’s legitimate national rights. He said China will also continue to act as a strategic partner and friend of Middle Eastern countries to strengthen security and stability and support development and peace in the region.
