Tafilah, Feb. 1 (Petra) –Ministry of Environment on Sunday distributed 255 plastic garbage containers, each has a capacity of 240 liters, to several southern governorates, as part of its efforts to support municipalities in reducing the phenomenon of indiscriminate garbage dumping.

In a statement, the ministry said the distribution process covered the southern governorates of Tafilah, Ma'an, Karak, and the Petra region, to meet the municipalities' needs and enhance cleanliness level in urban and tourist areas.

The ministry indicated that the process will continue in the coming phases to cover additional areas as needed.

On its goals, the ministry noted the step constitutes a "comprehensive and sustainable" national initiative, implemented within the framework of the executive program to reduce indiscriminate waste disposal.

The effort also aims to strengthen the environmental infrastructure in municipalities and tourist and archaeological sites, which would achieve ecological sustainability, protect public health, and enhance the target cities' aesthetic appeal.

The ministry highlighted the importance of joint cooperation among official institutions and the local community to ensure success of these initiatives.

It also urged citizens to use the designated containers and "actively" contribute to maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
