Amman, Nov. 2 (Petra) -- Experts say His Majesty King Abdullah II’s address opening parliament’s third ordinary session underscored that societal cohesion and public awareness remain the nation's strongest defense against external challenges.
Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), academics and sociologists emphasized that the royal speech highlighted the resilience of the Jordanian public during difficult times, framing social unity as a cornerstone of state stability.
Maisa Al-Rawashdeh, a professor of sociology at the University of Jordan, noted that social cohesion relies heavily on the rule of law, equal opportunity, and institutional trust. She stressed that protecting the national fabric requires fostering a culture of constructive dialogue, rejecting rumors and hate speech, and addressing challenges collectively rather than yielding to division.
Mahmoud Al-Rajabi, a professor of digital media at Middle East University, highlighted the role of digital literacy and critical thinking in safeguarding national unity. He urged media users to verify information before publication, distinguish fact from opinion, and refrain from amplifying inflammatory content.
Souad Gheith, a professor of psychological counseling at the Hashemite University, pointed to the foundational role of the family in instilling values of citizenship, mutual respect, and tolerance in future generations. She emphasized that modeling healthy dialogue at home helps youth navigate differences constructively and rejects all forms of bigotry.
