Amman, Oct. 23 (Petra)-- Lower House Speaker Mazen Qadi condemned the terrorist attack at Hamoud Church in Karak Governorate, describing it as a cowardly act that threatens Jordan’s security, stability and social cohesion.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Lower House, Qadi said the attack was unequivocally condemned on religious, moral and national grounds, stressing that there would be no leniency toward those responsible or anyone seeking to undermine Jordan’s security and national unity.
He said such terrorist acts serve only Jordan’s enemies and the agendas seeking to destabilize the region, fuel discord and sow division among members of the same society.
Qadi expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims, praying for God’s mercy upon the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured.
He affirmed confidence in the strength of the state and its institutions, which he said are capable of protecting the country and safeguarding its security and stability. He stressed that the rule of law would prevail and that no one would escape accountability.
Qadi highlighted Karak’s longstanding record of national unity and coexistence, saying the governorate has always embodied the bonds between its Muslim and Christian communities, who share the same homeland and destiny and have stood together through hardships and celebrations.
He added that relations between Muslims and Christians in Jordan represent a deeply rooted partnership built on citizenship, human dignity and the right to live in security and freedom. Jordan’s religious and cultural diversity, he said, is a civilizational and humanitarian asset that must be protected.
Qadi stressed that confronting terrorism requires firmness, countering discord requires awareness, and combating hatred requires tolerance. He urged Jordanians to remain vigilant and united and not allow rumors or incitement to serve the interests of those behind such crimes.
He said the perpetrators had abandoned the most basic values of humanity by violating the sanctity of places of worship, adding that their actions would only strengthen Jordanians’ resolve and solidarity.
Qadi also voiced confidence in the country’s security agencies and national institutions, urging citizens to exercise the highest levels of awareness and responsibility.
He concluded by saying that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, would remain resilient in the face of terrorism and sedition, with Karak continuing to stand as a model of national unity.
Qadi prayed for Jordan’s continued security and stability, for the protection of the King and the Jordanian people, and for mercy upon the victims and patience and solace for their families.
