Amman, March 10 (Petra) -- Senate Women’s Committee Chair Khawla Armouti met with Australian Ambassador to Jordan Paula Ganly on Tuesday to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation on women’s empowerment and exchange expertise between female parliamentarians.

The meeting, held at the Senate, also addressed support for initiatives and programs aimed at developing the capacities of young female leaders and promoting women’s entrepreneurship, particularly in less-advantaged areas.

Armouti stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between Jordan and Australia in the field of women’s empowerment and knowledge exchange, noting that such collaboration would help boost women’s participation across sectors and strengthen their role in development and decision-making.

She said Jordanian-Australian relations are built on mutual respect and cooperation, and continue to develop across political, economic and cultural fields, reflecting both countries’ commitment to expanding partnership horizons in line with their shared interests.

Armouti also commended Australia’s support for Jordan in several development sectors, particularly education, vocational training, women and youth empowerment, water management, and sustainable agriculture, highlighting the importance of maintaining such cooperation to achieve sustainable development.

She noted that Jordanian women have made notable progress in recent years in political, economic and social participation, enhancing their presence in leadership positions and decision-making institutions, within the framework of the political modernization process led by His Majesty King Abdullah II.

Armouti also reiterated Jordan’s firm stance, under the leadership of His Majesty, calling for de-escalation and an end to tensions, stressing that Jordan seeks peace and stability and rejects becoming an arena for conflict or any violation of its security, stability, and sovereignty. She also underscored the importance of continued coordination, exchanges of visits, and knowledge sharing between the two countries to further institutional cooperation and broaden partnership opportunities.

For her part, Ganly affirmed the depth of Jordanian-Australian relations and Australia’s keenness to expand cooperation with Jordan in the fields of economy, investment, tourism, education, and cultural exchange. She also highlighted Australia’s commitment to empowering women across sectors and supporting persons with disabilities, expressing hope for broadening joint cooperation in these areas.

Ganly further praised Jordan’s pivotal role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in supporting security and stability in the region, noting Australia’s concern over tensions in the Middle East and their potential implications for regional stability.
