Cairo, Feb. 11 (Petra) – Jordan’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Amjad Adaileh, participated on Wednesday in an emergency meeting of the League Council at the level of permanent representatives.

The extraordinary session focused on mobilizing Arab and international action to confront recent measures taken by the Israeli occupation government.

In his address, Adaileh underscored that the Israeli measures, aimed at imposing illegitimate sovereignty, expanding settlements, and establishing a new legal and administrative reality in the occupied West Bank, constitute a flagrant violation of international law. He stressed that such actions undermine the two-state solution and infringe upon the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent and sovereign state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, emphasizing that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory.

The Jordanian envoy also highlighted this week’s meeting in Amman between His Majesty King Abdullah II and the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, underlining the importance of countering any attempts to weaken the Palestinian National Authority.

Adaileh called for decisive Arab action to leverage the international climate against Israeli policies, transforming it into political and legal pressure to halt continued Israeli escalation. He cited UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli measures altering the demographic composition, character, and status of Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, as well as the International Court of Justice advisory opinion affirming the illegality of annexation and the necessity of ending the occupation.

Ambassador Faed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and the Occupied Arab Territories at the League’s General Secretariat, emphasized the gravity of the recent Israeli decisions and reaffirmed the Council’s firm position against settlement activity, which constitutes a serious violation of international law and remains the primary obstacle to a just and comprehensive peace.

For his part, the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the League, Ambassador Muhannad Aklouk, described the Israeli decisions as null and void. He called for full Arab and international support to enable the State of Palestine to exercise sovereignty over all its territory, based on recognition of the Palestine Liberation Organization as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
