Aqaba, April 15 (Petra) -- To mark the upcoming National Flag Day, the Governor of Aqaba, Ayman Al-Awaisheh, accompanied by local administrative officials, hoisted the Jordanian flag at the summit of Mount Umm ad-Dami on Wednesday. Standing at 1,854 meters above sea level, the peak is the highest point in Jordan.

Al-Awaisheh stated that selecting this specific location to display the national flag alongside portraits of His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II symbolizes the resilience and determination of the Jordanian people. He emphasized that the act of raising the flag at such a high altitude reflects the solid will of Jordanians to face challenges and their pride in the nation's historic journey.

He added that the Jordanian flag remains a symbol of unity, dignity, and the sacrifices made by previous generations for the country’s advancement. The celebration, he noted, embodies the people's cohesion with the Hashemite leadership and their commitment to continuing the nation’s progress and stability.

In a related statement, Faraj Al-Omari, head of the Jadara Voluntary Initiative, remarked that Flag Day is a national occasion that consolidates Jordanian unity.

He described the flag as more than just a symbol, calling it a banner of sovereignty and dignity that reflects the strength of the Jordanian social fabric. Al-Omari also highlighted that voluntary work serves as a practical expression of national belonging, praising the efforts of young Jordanians who contribute to the nation’s prosperity through community-based initiatives.

The ascent to Mount Umm ad-Dami, located in the Wadi Rum area near the southern border, serves as a powerful patriotic gesture on the eve of the national holiday, which will be celebrated across the Kingdom on Thursday.
