Karak, Oct. 23 (Petra)- Mohammad Al-Assasfah - Government Communication Minister and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani and Health Minister Ibrahim Bdour held a press briefing following a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan at the Karak Governorate building.
Momani stressed that Jordan will not relent in pursuing those responsible for the terrorist attack in Karak and bringing them to justice, affirming that the crime will not go unpunished. He said the government is committed to keeping Jordanians informed of all developments related to the attack.
He strongly condemned the cowardly terrorist act targeting innocent citizens, saying it was the result of extremist takfiri ideology. He stressed that the perpetrators do not represent Jordanians or reflect their authentic values and morals, nor the history of Jordanian society, which is rooted in fraternity, peaceful coexistence, equal citizenship and respect for human dignity.
Momani said the crime constituted an assault on Jordan as a whole, emphasizing that any attack against a Jordanian, regardless of religion or belief, is an attack on the entire Jordanian society. He added that the life of every Jordanian is precious to all Jordanians and that their lives, security and safety remain above all else.
He underscored that Christians are an integral part of Jordan's national fabric and partners in the country's past, present and future, noting that their presence is deeply rooted in the history, identity and national narrative of the land.
Momani reiterated that the perpetrators do not represent Jordanian society's values of fraternity and solidarity, stressing that any attempt to spread fear or incite discord would fail to undermine Jordanians' unity, cohesion and commitment to peaceful coexistence.
He offered prayers for the innocent victims who lost their lives in the terrorist attack and extended his sincere condolences to their families, wishing them patience and solace. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Momani urged citizens and media outlets to refrain from publishing or circulating images and videos showing the victims and injured, out of respect for their dignity and privacy and consideration for the grief of their families, as well as to avoid compounding their pain and suffering.
He also called on everyone to act responsibly, refrain from circulating rumors or unverified information, and rely on statements issued by official authorities. He reaffirmed that the government would continue to keep the public informed of developments related to the terrorist attack in Karak.
For his part, Health Minister Bdour said the number of injured had reached 40, including 14 admitted to Karak Government Hospital and 26 to Prince Ali bin Al Hussein Military Hospital. Three of the injured were subsequently transferred to the Italian Hospital in Karak.
He said seven people had died, including two at Karak Government Hospital and five at Prince Ali bin Al Hussein Military Hospital.
