Municipalities minister urges preparedness for weather emergencies

- Municipalities Minister urges monitoring of early warning system reports - Masri stresses coordination between municipalities, administrative officials, Civil Defense to face severe weather - Local Administration Minister urges municipalities to warn residents, livestock farmers to stay clear of flash flood-prone areas in South, East Amman, Oct 10 (Petra) – Following warnings about unstable weather conditions forecast in the Kingdom this week, and directives for precautions for the rainy season, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration Walid Masri on Saturday asked municipalities and joint service councils across the Kingdom to raise their alert levels.

The directive is to address anticipated severe conditions, particularly in the eastern and southern regions, he said, underscoring the need to closely monitor early warning system reports.

Masri emphasized the importance of full coordination and cooperation among municipal staff, administrative officials, the Civil Defense Directorate, and relevant official bodies to ensure field readiness and a rapid response to any emergency.

He called on municipalities and municipal affairs directorates to raise public awareness and warn the public at short notice of the potential for heavy downpours and flash floods, urging the need to keep residents living near wadi channels and livestock owners alert and immediately stay away from flood paths and low-lying areas.

The Minister stressed the need to take all measures to protect lives and property.
