Madaba, April 6 (Petra) -- Officials and trade representatives confirmed on Monday that food supplies and essential commodities remain plentiful across local markets at stable prices, dismissing rumors of potential shortages.

During an inspection of markets in the city of Madaba, Senator Khalil Haj Tawfiq, head of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, assured the public that the kingdom maintains a secure strategic stockpile. He urged citizens to disregard social media rumors regarding supply chains, noting that Jordan has maintained consistent food security even during previous regional crises and conflicts.

"The private sector is committed to providing sufficient quantities of goods with multiple alternatives for consumers at appropriate prices," Haj Tawfiq said. He added that the Chamber is working in close coordination with the public sector and local municipalities to monitor supply lines and address feedback from both retail traders and consumers.

The visit included inspections of several commercial outlets and vital sectors to ensure compliance with posted prices and quality standards. Local authorities emphasized that oversight remains a priority to protect consumers from price gouging and to ensure market stability.

Haitham Jwainat, head of the Greater Madaba Municipal Committee, stated that the municipality is coordinating with relevant agencies to support the commercial sector in Madaba and resolve any logistical challenges that could hinder economic activity. Hussam Odeh, head of the Madaba Governorate Council, added that the tour is part of a broader effort to monitor market realities firsthand. He stressed the importance of intensified regulatory oversight to guarantee that high-quality essential goods remain accessible to all.
