Prime Minister, Syrian delegation discuss expanding cooperation

Amman, April 12 (Petra) -- Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Sunday received a Syrian ministerial delegation participating in the second session of the Jordanian-Syrian Higher Coordination Council, headed by Syria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Shaibani.

During the meeting at the Prime Ministry, Hassan underscored the importance of building on existing cooperation between the two countries and leveraging available opportunities, particularly in the water, transport, energy, ports, and railway sectors.

He highlighted the role of the Higher Coordination Council in advancing coordination, noting its tangible impact in strengthening cooperation across trade, energy, and security sectors.

The Prime Minister reiterated Jordan’s position, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in support of Syria’s unity, sovereignty, stability, and institutional development, stressing that Syria’s stability is integral to regional stability. He added that Jordan remains committed to supporting Syria across various sectors.

For his part, Shaibani commended Jordan’s role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in backing Syria, expressing his country’s commitment to advancing cooperation and achieving outcomes that serve the mutual interests of both countries.

He noted that strengthening Jordanian-Syrian relations would contribute to broader regional engagement with Gulf countries, Turkiye, and Europe, given the strategic geographic position of both nations.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi and his Syrian counterpart reviewed the Council’s ongoing efforts to expand cooperation and discussed the agenda of its second session, which began Sunday in Amman, focusing on widening areas of collaboration.
