Jordan, Japan Discuss Expanding Economic, Investment Cooperation

Amman, Oct. 29 (Petra) -- The Jordanian-Japanese working group on enhancing economic and investment ties discussed expanding cooperation in industry, energy and logistics at its second meeting Wednesday.

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, in a statement Thursday, said the two sides explored using Jordan's "strategic" location to reach regional markets, including cooperation on regional projects.

Both sides also discussed the importance of strengthening communication between private sector institutions to identify joint opportunities and projects that boost trade and build investment partnerships.

They stressed the need to continue regular technical meetings and to follow up on implementing the work plan through February 2027.

They called for defining executive steps, responsibilities and timeframes for the issues under review, ahead of presenting the results to the Jordanian-Japanese Joint Committee, chaired by Industry, Trade and Supply Minister Yarub Qudah.

The two sides also reviewed progress on the joint work plan and the results of regular technical meetings held in recent months. The meetings addressed priority issues and sought to overcome challenges facing Japanese investments in the Kingdom.

During the joint talks, Ministry Secretary General Dana Alzoubi said "continuous follow-up and close" coordination between the two countries' relevant authorities had produced "notable" progress on several items of the joint work plan.

Alzoubi said the ministry is "keen" to turn bilateral dialogue into practical, tangible measures. She said these would ease investors' work, support the expansion of existing Japanese investments and attract high-quality new ones that drive economic development.

In turn, Japan's Deputy Ambassador to Jordan Tomoko Watanabe said her country views Jordan as a "vital regional hub" for business and investment.

She stressed the importance of building on "promising" opportunities in energy, logistics and regional connectivity to strengthen economic ties and double trade volume between the two countries.
