Amman, Aug. 31 (Petra) -- Jordan is reviewing and updating its national commitments to end violence against children ahead of the Second Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, scheduled for November 18-19 in the Philippines.
The National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA) held a preparatory session Monday with members of the National Team for Family Protection from Violence, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and the World Health Organization (WHO) to assess progress since the first ministerial conference in Bogotá in 2024 and identify priorities for the next phase.
The discussions focused on developing updated, measurable commitments based on Jordan's 2026-2030 National Multisectoral Plan for the Prevention and Response to Child Protection, Domestic Violence, and Violence Against Women and Girls.
NCFA Secretary-General Mohammad Miqdadi noted that the process provides an opportunity to assess progress in Jordan's protection system and identify areas requiring further improvement.
He explained that the national plan, approved by the Cabinet earlier this year, sets priorities for prevention, rehabilitation, governance, and accountability and was developed jointly by national institutions, UN agencies, and members of the National Team for Family Protection from Violence.
Jordan presented eight national commitments to strengthen protection against violence against children at the first global ministerial conference in Bogotá. Miqdadi noted that Jordan addresses domestic violence, violence against children, and violence against women and girls through an integrated protection framework.
Jordan will participate at the ministerial level in the Manila conference, where it is expected to present updated commitments and any additional priorities agreed upon during the preparatory process.
The session also reviewed Jordan's participation in the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children and progress made since the Bogotá conference. A separate discussion, titled "Roadmap from Bogotá to Manila," examined the global context and the issues to be reflected in Jordan's national presentation.
NCFA Family Affairs Directorate Director Hakam Matalqa outlined Jordan's commitments announced at the 2024 Bogotá conference and reviewed progress in their implementation.
Participants also signed an agreement to join the AMAN project as part of Jordan's commitments under the global initiative. The agreement involved the NCFA, the Institute for Family Health, SOS Children's Villages, and the Justice Center for Legal Aid.
A third session focused on translating national priorities into measurable and implementable commitments for the Manila conference. Discussions covered three areas: access to services and survivor support; institutional, legislative, and financing frameworks; and prevention and community empowerment.
