AMMAN, Oct. 14 (Petra) – Cypriot Ambassador to Jordan Sevag Avedissian underscored the global resonance of His Majesty King Abdullah II’s address at the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly regarding conditions in Gaza and the West Bank, noting that His Majesty’s principles apply broadly to international conflict resolution.
Speaking at a reception in Amman on Tuesday marking the 66th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Cyprus–attended by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Nancy Namrouqa alongside senior officials, diplomats, and media figures–Avedissian said King Abdullah delivered fundamental truths, emphasizing that military force cannot achieve genuine solutions.
"His Majesty delivered key messages, stressing that while some issues require immediate attention and others demand sustained focus, injustice requires both," the envoy stated. He added that softening descriptions of actions risks normalizing violations, questioning the efficacy of international law if allowed to be ignored for decades.
Avedissian noted that commemorating Cypriot independence in Amman carries special significance given the strong, multi-faceted relationship connecting Jordan and Cyprus.
Addressing global issues discussed during the recent UN General Assembly, the ambassador highlighted artificial intelligence as a primary focus. He noted that while AI serves as a powerful catalyst for human progress, world leaders and technology executives emphasized the necessity of effective oversight and regulation to mitigate its substantial risks.
The anniversary event included cultural and artistic performances showcasing Cypriot heritage.
