Amman, March 29 (Petra) – The First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of Representatives, Dr. Khamis Atieh, on Sunday discussed with Russian Ambassador to Jordan, Gleb Desyatnikov, prospects for joint cooperation, particularly in the parliamentary field.

During a meeting held at the House's headquarters, Atieh emphasized the "deep-rooted" friendship between Jordan and Russia, based on mutual respect and cooperation aimed at achieving common interests.

Atieh noted the Kingdom's appreciation for Russia's "supportive" stance on resolving the Palestinian issue based on international law.

He stated Jordan is "not a party to the ongoing conflicts in the region, adding that its policy is based on avoiding involvement in conflicts, while focusing on protecting its national security." On its current policy, he noted the Kingdom deals with developments from the perspective of defending its interests, while continuing to support political and diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and restoring stability.

He also said Jordanians support His Majesty King Abdullah II and the valiant Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) in protecting the Kingdom from any threats, without tolerating any violation of national sovereignty.

Atieh warned against Israel steps to exploit the war to try to change the status quo in Jerusalem and escalate settlement activity in the West Bank, noting importance of international pressure to reopen Al-Aqsa Mosque, which has been closed for nearly a month.

The Russian ambassador, in turn, expressed his country's appreciation for Jordan's positions, under His Majesty King Abdullah II's leadership, aimed at achieving security and stability in the region.

The diplomat affirmed Russia's keenness to develop bilateral cooperation to serve common interests and open new cooperation horizons.
