Amman, January 20 (Petra) – Jordan and Japan on Tuesday held the eighth meeting of the Jordanian-Japanese Dialogue on Economic Development Policy on enhancing cooperation.

The meeting reviewed development projects funded through Japanese assistance and examined priorities proposed for support in the coming phase.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Director-General of the International Cooperation Bureau Ishizuki Hideo, representatives of the Japanese Embassy in Amman, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Japan and its office in Jordan, headed by Morihata Shingo, and officials from the Jordanian Ministries of Planning and International Cooperation and Finance.

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan praised the government and people of Japan for their continued support of development priorities and projects, as well as for the provision of technical assistance.

She commended the strategic partnership between the two countries. She praised the role of JICA in implementing development projects and strengthening institutional capacity in several sectors, particularly energy and water.

Touqan presented an overview of recent economic developments and Jordan's development priorities within the framework of the second executive programme of the Economic Modernisation Vision 2026–2029.

The two sides reviewed Japan's aid policy, including ongoing projects, proposed initiatives for the coming years and technical assistance programmes.

The Japanese side expressed particular interest in supporting the water, energy, health and tourism sectors and discussed cooperation priorities for the next phase.

Both sides exchanged views on strengthening coordination mechanisms and enhancing the effectiveness of cooperation in support of economic stability and sustainable development in Jordan.

They called for continuing the structured policy dialogue as a platform for deepening the long-term partnership between the two countries and agreed to maintain close communication and continue dialogue at the administrative and executive levels in line with Jordan's development priorities.

The Japanese side affirmed the depth of the Jordanian-Japanese partnership and reiterated its commitment to supporting the Jordanian government and its development priorities under the Economic Modernisation Vision, contributing to sustainable development and reinforcing Jordan's security and stability.
