Amman, March 2 (Petra) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi discussed with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Tom Berendsen, in a phone call on Monday, the dangerous escalation witnessed by the region and its security, economic and political repercussions regionally and internationally.
Safadi also discussed with Berendsen, who assumed his responsibilities as Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands last month, ways to enhance the relations of friendship between the two countries. The two ministers affirmed their aspiration to work together to expand cooperation in various fields.
During the call, Safadi condemned the Iranian attacks on the Kingdom’s territory and on the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council and rejected these attacks as a violation of international law and of state sovereignty.
Safadi stressed the importance of unifying efforts to restore security and stability to the region, de-escalate and adopt diplomacy as a means to that end.
Berendsen affirmed the Netherlands’ solidarity with the Kingdom in confronting the attacks.
Safadi and Berendsen discussed the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, where Safadi stressed the need for the world not to forget the suffering of the people of Gaza as a result of the focus on Iran, as Gaza continues to endure a humanitarian catastrophe that requires effective efforts to end it.
Safadi stressed the necessity of the full implementation of all provisions of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan regarding Gaza.
Safadi also warned of the danger of the illegal Israeli measures in the West Bank, including its decisions targeting the annexation of the occupied West Bank, in a flagrant violation of international law and a dangerous escalation that undermines the chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
Safadi also warned of Israel’s continued closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan and prevention of worshippers from performing their religious rituals, stressing condemnation of that as a violation of international law and freedom of worship.
Safadi valued the Netherlands’ positions rejecting the illegal Israeli measures and supporting the two-state solution.
The two ministers agreed to maintain communication and coordination to consolidate the partnership between the two countries and in efforts to achieve security and stability.
