Amman, July 19 (Petra) -- Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty condemned the Iranian attacks on Jordan and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and affirmed their full solidarity in confronting them.

During a telephone call, the two ministers discussed efforts aimed at halting the dangerous escalation in the region and stressed the need to support those efforts to reach a comprehensive agreement that addresses all sources of tension, ensures respect for the security and sovereignty of states, and guarantees freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law.

Safadi and Abdelatty also stressed the need for a ceasefire and the resumption of negotiations as the path to resolving the crisis.

The ministers also discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, stressing the need to implement all provisions of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan aimed at consolidating stability in Gaza.

They warned that the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza was continuing because of Israeli restrictions preventing the entry of sufficient humanitarian aid and called for those restrictions to be lifted while urging coordinated efforts to ensure that the humanitarian and medical needs of the enclave's residents are met.

Safadi and Abdelatty also condemned Israel's illegal measures entrenching the occupation in the occupied West Bank, saying the actions constitute a flagrant violation of international law and represent a dangerous escalation that threatens regional security and stability.

The two ministers warned of the consequences of Israeli measures aimed at changing the historic and legal status quo at Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem. They called for effective international action to halt the measures, which they said both countries reject as violations of international law and of Israel's legal obligations as the occupying power.

Safadi and Abdelatty reiterated that there is no alternative to a two-state solution that ends the occupation and establishes an independent Palestinian state on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law, as the only path to achieving a just peace.
