FM, French Counterpart Talk Diplomacy to Contain Regional Escalation

Amman, March 24 (Petra) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot discussed the dangerous escalation in the region and prospects for ending it as a "key" step to restore security and stability.

During a phone call on Tuesday, Safadi renewed Jordan’s condemnation of the Iranian attacks on the Kingdom and several Arab and Islamic countries. Barrot reaffirmed France’s solidarity with Jordan.

The two ministers called fro activating diplomacy as the path to ending the escalation, safeguarding regional and international peace and security, and reaching a solution that guarantees respect for international law, state sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs.

The duo also reviewed developments in Lebanon, where Safadi stressed the need to halt the Israeli aggression against Lebanon and support Lebanon’s security, stability, and the sovereignty of the Lebanese state over its entire territory.

Additionally, Safadi and Barrot voiced support for the Lebanese government’s decision to place all weapons under state control.

Safadi underscored the importance of French-led efforts to secure an agreement that would end the escalation.

Discussing the situation in the occupied West Bank and Gaza, Safadi warned of the dangers posed by Israel’s continued illegal measures, which are undermining all prospects for a just peace.

Safadi stressed the need for "genuine" international efforts to stop those measures, including actions that violate freedom of worship and prevent Muslims and Christians from practicing their religious rites at their holy sites.

Safadi and Barrot also affirmed the "deep-rooted" Jordanian-French partnership and their continued joint efforts to promote security and stability in the region.
