Amman, March 31 (Petra) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi met on Tuesday with President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mirjana Spoljaric Egger.
The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation and coordination between Jordan and the ICRC and preparations for a high-level conference on humanitarian action in conflict that Jordan is set to host in the last quarter of 2026.
The conference follows the launch in 2024 of the Global Initiative to Strengthen Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law by Jordan, Brazil, South Africa, China, France and Kazakhstan in partnership with the ICRC.
The two sides discussed the repercussions of the ongoing regional escalation and efforts to contain it, along with developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Safadi called for upholding the ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring the sustained and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to address the worsening humanitarian situation in the Strip.
He called for an end to illegal Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank, describing them as violations of international law. He warned against continued restrictions on freedom of worship for Muslims and Christians in occupied Jerusalem.
