Amman, July 16 (Petra) – Minister of Water and Irrigation, Raed Abu Saud, and Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Smirat, on Thursday inaugurated the first package of the Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ)'s e-services.
This package features 34 digital services out of a 49 total that were digitized as part of the water sector's digital transformation project.
This initiative aligns with royal directives, the goals of the Economic Modernization Vision, and the public sector modernization program aimed at developing efficiency of government services.
Talking at the launching ceremony, Abu Saud said this launch reflects the Ministry of Water and Irrigation's commitment to developing its government services system by providing integrated e-services that offer "efficiency, speed, and transparency." Abu Saud said these e-services place citizens and investors at "the nexus" of the development process, which contribute to streamlining procedures, improving service quality, and enhancing accessibility.
On its scope, he noted the project was implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, digitizing 49 e-services for individuals, companies, and government institutions.
This step, he noted, includes services provided by the WAJ and its affiliated water companies (Miyahuna, Yarmouk Water Company, and Aqaba Water Company), as the remaining e-services will be launched in the second phase in the coming period.
Meanwhile, he affirmed the second package of e-services, specifically designed for the 3 water companies will be launched in the coming period, following the completion of training and capacity-building programs.
He stated this effort will ensure staff readiness to handle e-requests, which would enhance the project's "success and sustainability." He remarked launch of this package is a "qualitative" step in the digital transformation of the Kingdom's water sector and underscores the Ministry of Water and Irrigation's commitment to providing "smart and integrated" public services.
These e-services, he said, would improve the business environment, raise the level of service recipient satisfaction, and enhance efficiency of government performance, and would "ultimately achieve more accessible, higher-quality, and sustainable" digital services.
For his part, Smirat said the new e-services reflect a "distinguished model" of cooperation and integration among institutions aimed at developing e-services delivery.
He noted digital transformation is a "key enabler" for achieving development and modernization, simplifying procedures for citizens, ensuring reliability, and enhancing the efficiency of government services.
Additionally, he noted work is underway to complete the project phases by rolling out new e-services that will have a "direct impact on facilitating citizens' access to modern, more efficient, easier, and higher-quality" digital public services.
This effort, he said, aligns with the Royal directives and the government's commitment to continuing efforts to develop government services that meet citizens' aspirations and support modernization and development process.
As for the project's two packages, he said the first offers 34 e-services that include 23 e-services for private wells, 2 e-services for laboratories and quality, 2 for training purposes, 2 for financial affairs transactions, and 4 for operations and drilling areas, as well as an e-service for requesting treated water from purification plants.
He noted this move allows beneficiaries to complete their transactions electronically "easily and conveniently" without the need to visit service centers.
