JFDA stresses support for local pharmaceutical industry during plant inspection in Umm al-Amad

Amman, Sept 14 (Petra) -- The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) Director General Rana Obeidat reaffirmed on Monday the agency's commitment to supporting the domestic pharmaceutical industry and enabling it to develop innovative, high-value products to boost competitiveness and expand exports to regional and global markets.

Speaking during a field visit to the Jordanian Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Company (JPM) plant in Umm al-Amad to examine production operations and growth opportunities, Obeidat emphasized that the JFDA's regulatory and supervisory role aims to elevate product quality, support local manufacturing, and strengthen its market presence at home and abroad.

She highlighted the need to keep pace with global pharmaceutical advances, boost research and development (R&D), utilize advanced technologies, and venture into promising fields such as natural and herbal products and rapid diagnostic medical supplies to ensure national health and drug security.

Obeidat called for establishing a collaborative network among accredited R&D laboratories to analyze and develop medicines, streamlining analytical and validation methods across the sector.

Hanan Al-Sboul, Secretary General of the Jordanian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (JAPM), praised the JFDA's role in supporting the industry's objectives under the Economic Modernization Vision, particularly in job creation, boosting national exports, and safeguarding national drug security.

JPM Chief Executive Officer Abdulhamid Sinokrot stressed the importance of public-private partnerships in delivering safe, effective, and high-quality medications while making local production more responsive to market demands.

Sinokrot outlined JPM's expansion plans, which include broadening its product portfolio, moving into specialized manufacturing of injectable and biological drugs, expanding strategic partnerships, and facilitating technology transfer to solidify Jordanian pharmaceuticals' regional position.

The meeting was attended by JPM subsidiary General Manager Taha Al-Kubaisi, Executive Advisor Mustafa Al-Kubaisi, JFDA Drug Department Director Rana Malkawi, Inspector Rasheed Salah, and other company and agency officials.

During the visit, Obeidat toured the manufacturing facilities to review technical capabilities, quality control systems, and product development workflows aimed at meeting local and export demand. The tour forms part of a series of joint field visits conducted by the JFDA and the JAPM to evaluate investment and sustainable growth opportunities across the sector.
