Amman, Jan. 11 (Petra) -- Senate President Faisal Fayez met on Sunday with Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Guo Wei at the Senate headquarters to review Jordanian–Chinese relations and prospects for expanding cooperation.
The meeting, attended by Chair of the Jordan–China Parliamentary Friendship Committee and Chair of the Senate’s Labor and Social Development Committee Issa Murad, focused on strengthening ties across economic, political, and parliamentary fields, as well as regional developments.
Fayez praised the high level of bilateral relations, describing them as a strategic partnership based on mutual respect, shared interests, and ongoing consultation and coordination on issues of common concern.
He reaffirmed Jordan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with China, noting His Majesty King Abdullah II’s multiple official visits to China aimed at broadening joint collaboration.
He stressed the Senate’s commitment to enhancing parliamentary relations and opening new avenues for bilateral cooperation, including attracting additional Chinese investments to Jordan.
Fayez highlighted opportunities for major Chinese investments in sectors such as telecommunications, digital economy and artificial intelligence, water projects, mining, renewable energy, tourism, and public transport.
He underlined Jordan’s strategic location, its development and special economic zones, and its free trade agreements with the United States, Canada, the European Union, Arab countries, and Singapore.
Fayez said these advantages enable Chinese companies to establish manufacturing operations in Jordan, benefit from customs exemptions, and export to these markets. Jordan’s geography, he added, positions it as a gateway for Chinese firms participating in the reconstruction of Syria and Gaza, as well as other countries in the region.
He also emphasized the need for practical steps by the international community to ensure Israel’s compliance with all provisions of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, describing this as a key step toward achieving regional peace.
For his part, Guo expressed China’s appreciation for the efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II to promote peace and end regional conflicts through political frameworks and responsible dialogue, and to safeguard regional peace and stability.
He praised the advanced level of Jordan–China relations, particularly in political, investment, and trade areas, affirming China’s interest in expanding its investments in Jordan and activating agreements between the two countries.
