Amman, Apr. 9 (Petra)-- The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs has strongly condemned the Israeli government’s approval of 34 new settlements in the occupied West Bank, describing the move as a blatant violation of international law and a serious blow to the two-state solution.

The ministry stressed that the decision undermines the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent, sovereign state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Official spokesperson Ambassador Fouad Majali reaffirmed Jordan’s firm rejection and strong condemnation of any Israeli attempts to impose control over the occupied West Bank.

He said such actions constitute clear violations of international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli measures aimed at altering the demographic composition, character, and status of the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem.

He also referenced the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which affirmed the illegality of settlement construction and the annexation of West Bank lands.

Majali reiterated that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories, stressing that all Israeli measures in the West Bank are illegal and illegitimate.

He called on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities by compelling Israel to halt its unlawful expansionist policies in the occupied West Bank and to ensure the fulfillment of the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights to establish an independent state on their national soil.
