Amman, March 29 (Petra) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi and German Foreign Minister Johann David Wadephul discussed regional developments and ways to end the dangerous escalation in the region during a phone call on Sunday.

During the call, Safadi warned against Israel’s continued restrictions on the freedom of worship for Muslims and Christians in the occupied Palestinian territories, stressing the need to compel Israel to respect this right.

Safadi reiterated his condemnation of Israel’s continued prevention of Muslims from performing their religious rituals at Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif. He also condemned Israel for preventing the Latin Patriarch in Jerusalem from reaching the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to hold Palm Sunday Mass and for restricting Christians’ freedom to practice their religious rites, particularly during the current religious holidays.

Safadi and Wadephul reviewed efforts to end the war with Iran and restore security and stability in the region on foundations that address the sources of threat, respect international law, and uphold the principles of good neighborliness.

Safadi reiterated his condemnation of Iranian attacks on Jordan and on sister Arab countries in violation of international law, stressing the need to immediately halt these attacks.

The two ministers also discussed the serious deterioration in Lebanon, where Safadi stressed the need for an immediate halt to the aggression against Lebanon and support for the Lebanese government’s efforts to extend its sovereignty over all its territory, activate its institutions, and ensure that arms are confined to the state.

They also discussed a number of bilateral and international issues, affirming continued coordination and communication to explore ways to strengthen friendly relations between the two countries and contribute to achieving security and stability.
