Jordan Reaffirms Support for Judicial Cooperation With Syria-Justice Minister

Amman, Jan. 11 (Petra) -- Minister of Justice Bassam Talhouni reiterated Jordan’s "full" support for Syria’s efforts to enhance stability and rebuild state institutions, particularly the judiciary, adding that Syria’s stability contributes to regional security and stability.
Talhouni made the remarks during a meeting in Amman on Sunday with Syrian Minister of Justice Mazhar Al-Wais, who is heading a high-level judicial delegation on an official visit to the Kingdom.
Talks covered ways to strengthen joint judicial and legal cooperation to serve the two countries' shared interests and reinforces justice and the rule of law.
Talking at the meeting, Talhouni said the meeting reflects Royal directives by His Majesty King Abdullah II to enhance joint Arab action and expand cooperation with Syria in the judicial and legal fields, through unified efforts, exchange of expertise, and development of justice systems.
He noted supporting stability and rebuilding state institutions in Syria is a "priority," affirming Jordan’s readiness to place its judicial and legal expertise at the service of the Syrian side and to enhance institutional cooperation.
Talhouni also reviewed Jordan’s judicial experience, including efforts to strengthen judicial independence, legislative procedures, and the development of the justice sector, particularly in digital transformation, electronic signatures, and automation of judicial procedures.
For his part, Al-Wais praised progress of Jordan’s Ministry of Justice and expressed his country’s keenness to strengthen coordination and exchange expertise with the Kingdom.
During the visit that runs from January 11 to 13, Syrian justice minister is scheduled to meet with the President of the Judicial Council, the Chief Justice, and the Director of Public Security Directorate, as well as visits to the Judicial Institute and the Military Judiciary Directorate, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and exchange views on issues of common interest.
