Amman, July 15 (Petra)-- The Department of the National Library Director-General and Information Commissioner Firas Al-Darabah met on Wednesday with a Palestinian delegation to discuss the kingdom’s regulatory framework and practical experience in securing the right to access information.

The visiting delegation included representatives from the Palestinian Anti-Corruption Commission, the General Secretariat of the Palestinian Cabinet, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Telecom and Information Technology, according to a National Library statement.

The visit is part of a training program organized by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) from July 13 to 15. The program aims to assist the Palestinian Authority in establishing a legal framework for the right to information, transparency, and governance.

Welcoming the delegation, Al-Darabah highlighted the deep ties between Jordan and Palestine and reiterated Amman's willingness to share its achievements and administrative challenges in implementing transparency laws. He emphasized that the right to access information is a cornerstone of good governance and public trust in state institutions.

Al-Darabah delivered a presentation outlining Jordan's Law on Securing the Right to Information, its historical development, and the classification system for documents. He detailed the structure of the Information Council, the responsibilities of the Information Commissioner, the legal basis for indexing systems, and the procedures for submitting and resolving complaints.

Jamal Qash, deputy head of the Palestinian Anti-Corruption Commission and leader of the delegation, presented an overview of a draft Palestinian law on the right to information. He said the visit aimed to study Jordan's enforcement mechanisms, administrative steps, and institutional practices to help shape a comprehensive Palestinian legal framework aligned with international best practices.

The meeting concluded with a discussion on the challenges of applying information-access laws, institutional disclosure procedures, and future avenues for bilateral cooperation between Jordanian and Palestinian public institutions.
